At my little sister's wedding shower, one of the girls told a story about how, at another shower, her friend's mother had given her a iron skillet.
The woman told her daughter she could use it protect herself if her groom-to-be ever turned violent.
"Or you could just use it to cook properly and you'll never have to worry about it," says I.
